I’m a 30 something guy living with anxiety who loves to cook as much as he loves to eat. I’m no professional, but have been cooking since the age of 10 (albeit not very well) trying to find flavours I enjoy. Growing up, I was extremely fussy about food, living off fish fingers and chips for a really long time until I got old enough to realise that trying new things is really important!
Having suffered anxiety for almost 5 years, I found solace in various things, from therapy to a social media community where I realised that not only was I not alone, but that my story could actually help people. The other thing I found that helped me was cooking. I love the way it disconnects me from the every day.
During the last 5 years, I spent a lot of time discovering and creating recipes that allow me to explore new flavours, tastes, textures and techniques that all work together to create lovely food that not only makes you feel good but offers a great sense of achievement. Cooking has given me a healthy outlook on life, concentrating on good clean food that bring people together. Mental wellbeing can be sought through various means, why not try food?
Although the key to battling anxiety is to challenge negative thoughts, sometimes it can exhaust us, and I find the distraction of cooking is a perfect way to help us to reset after a tough day. This blog consists of my favourite recipes, all quite simple, that allow you to create tasty meals as the perfect distraction, with great tasting food at the end of it.
